Description

Kavyaa (Paoli Dam) is a journalist. But things take turn and she feels cheated by an employer who exploits her, uses her body and humiliates her. Feeling cheated and betrayed she vows to avenge her humiliation and turns into a sex worker. In this way, becoming a prostitute, she goes on taking revenge from them who had used her body or who were somehow involved in her humiliation and molestation. This affects her family and friends too. She is even jailed for the murder of one of the person with whom she slept. Did she really murder him? If not, who is the murderer? How would Kavyaa survive?

Description

The film is set in contemporary Delhi, India, in the household of a joint family which runs a fast-food and video business in the ground floor of their two-story home. The protagonists are the two daughters-in-law, both of whom have joined the family by marriage: Sita (Nandita Das), who is newly wed to the younger son Jatin (Javed Jaffrey); and Radha (Shabana Azmi), who has been married to the elder son Ashok (Kulbhushan Kharbanda) for 15 years. Both couples are unhappy. Jatin, who feels he has been pressured into marriage by the family, neglects Sita and continues to see his Chinese girlfriend. Ashok has chosen to become a tapasvin (an ascetic) after discovering that Radha is infertile, and has been using her to test his resolve in celibacy for 13 years. The two women turn to each other for solace and become lovers. Tipped off by a servant, Ashok discovers them in bed together. Sita leaves, while Radha, who wishes to explain matters to Ashok, promises to meet her outside to start a new life together. In the confrontation that follows, Radha's sari catches fire from the kitchen stove and Ashok abandons her in flames. In the final scene, the two women are reunited.

Description

Tala, a London-based Jordanian of Palestinian origin, prepares for an elaborate wedding with her Jordanian fiancé, when she encounters a timid Leyla, a young British Indian woman who is dating her best friend Ali.

Tala comes from a spirited Christian family; whereas Leyla's strong Muslim upbringing could not be more different from each other but the attraction is immediate between both girls. Tala's feisty nature provokes Leyla out of her shell and soon both women reveal their feelings for each other.

However, Tala is not ready to accept the implications of the choice her heart has made and escapes back to Jordan where her chain-smoking, high-brow mother finishes preparations for her ostentatious wedding. As family members descend and the wedding day approaches, simmering family tensions come to boiling point and the pressure mounts for Tala to be true to herself and she breaks off the wedding.

Meanwhile a heartbroken Leyla relishes her newly found sense of identity and self-respect and moves on with her new life - much to the shock of her parents. Single again, Tala flies back to London - but it will take more than just a date set up by Ali and Leyla's sister Zina to win Leyla back.
