Mohandas (2009) Country: India Language: Hindi Year: 2009 Color/BW: COLOR Category: Feature Film Genre: Drama, Thriller Description A hard hitting tale, the story begins with about Mohandas (Nakul) who is born in a poor family, young Mohandas lands an important job at the 'Oriental Coal Mines'. However, his success story is brutally disrupted when somebody steals his identity and takes his place in his name. A local journalist tapes the story which reaches Meghna, an Indian television star news reader in Delhi.
A Kafkaesque tale of identity theft that becomes a searing indictment of bureaucratic corruption and conspiracy. Irony and satire run as undercurrents as the film plumbs the absurd levels to which democratic institutions can be manipulated today. It is also an allegory of how a fake identity displaces the real one in contemporary times. And depicts the common man of Gandhiji.
It isn't the sort of movie that soothes. But it is engaging and gripping for the larger part.
