It's Diwali and Alka (Bhagyashree), Nandu (Shyamalee Palekar) and Meenu (Purnima Patwardhan) are running around to buy a fitting gift for their working mother. Returning from a futile hunt, they find hand-made gifts for their mother. As they are sitting round glumly, they discover a mystery gift on their verandah. This sets them off on an a voyage of discovery where they make new friends, Shanky (Prashant Bhat), his grandfather Ex-Rear Admiral Shankar Ramkrishnan (Amol Palekar) and Shanky's tuition teacher Nikhil (Ashutosh Gowariker). Fights, disagreements, friendships, sacrifice, jealously, first love are some of the emotions that they face... and emerge stronger to face life.
